Do your rental cars include insurance?

Comprehensive insurance is included in the rate. Excess payable for vehicle damage is $500 for drivers 25+ years and $1,500 for 21 to 24 years.

What is the age limit to hiring a car?

Hirer(s) must be aged 21 and over, and fully licensed.

Can we drive off-road on dirt roads?

No, with our vehicles you must strictly stay on the sealed roads.

What happens if I damage the vehicle?

Any damage that the vehicle incurs will be charged at cost plus a $30 admin fee. Excess $500 is maximum.

Do you pick-up and drop-off ?

The answer is YES!

We offer a complimentary pick-up service from your hotel to our rental location. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please let us know the name and address of your hotel, as well as your preferred pick-up time.

Alternatively, if you have arranged for transportation on your own, please inform us of your estimated time of arrival so we can prepare for your rental.

Please be awarded the pick-up service is only available within our office hours.

Do I get a refund if I drop my car off early?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds, once you have paid for the rental period

What happens if we're in an accident?

If anyone is injured ring 000 and speak to the Queensland Ambulance Service.

A pamphlet is located in the glove box of your rental car with more information on what to do.

Is it an additional fee to add more drivers?

No, there is no extra charge for additional drivers with us.
As long as they are over 21 and on a full license.

What happens if the vehicle is returned not up to cleaning standards?

As stated above and in our Terms and conditions, no off-roading is permitted.
Any off-road use or extra cleaning required will incur a  $75 cleaning fee.

What’s the fuel policy?

All car rentals are a full-to-full fuel policy, meaning, when you initially hire the car it will be full of petrol. If the vehicle is not returned with a full petrol tank, as stated in our terms and conditions, there will be a service fee of $50 applied, plus the cost of the petrol to fill the tank. 

Do I need a credit card to rent a vehicle?

Yes, you will need to present a credit card to rent from Tropical North Car Rentals. Alternatively, we take a $500 bond and refund when the car is returned.   
We have the right to refuse rental if the customer only has a debit card for security reasons.

Do your rental cars include unlimited kilometers

Our car hires all included unlimited kilometers, meaning, there is no restriction on the amount of klms drien in a single hire. However, all rental vehicles must be within specified boundaries i.e. North to Cooktown via sealed road, or Cape Tribulation via sealed road; South to Townsville; West to Chillagoe. Driving outside of boundaries must be communicated when booking a vehicle. 

What if we need roadside assistance?

For assistance please call 1800 648 058 and provide your vehicle registration number when requested.
